Your desert trip from Fes to Marrakech starts from Fes at 08:00, traveling along Ifrane, where the houses take a European shape for their roofs. This is to cope with the seasonal snowfall. Later on, we arrive in Azrou, which means in Berber language stone or rock. Here, there is the opportunity to take a walk and to see the Barbary apes in the oak and cedar trees in the Middle Atlas.
From here, we continue driving over the Middle Atlas, passing through Timahdite. We reach Midelt, which is referred to as the apple capital of Morocco and situated at the foot of the Ayachi Mountain. Dinner and overnight spent in a guest house.
After breakfast, we drive south over the Tizi-n-Talghemt pass. We continue through the Ziz Valley, known for its palm trees, the length of the surrounding oasis, and the ancient kasbahs, small villages of individual houses.
We reach Errachidia then Erfoud, famous for its date festival and fossils. It is wonderful to visit the shops to see how these fossils have been worked into artifacts.
We continue to Rissani and Erg Chebbi Dunes in Merzouga. Here, an hour to an hour and a half an hour sunset camel ride is scheduled, either setting out from the camp or to it. It is also possible to take the 4×4 to the camp. Back at the camp, after dinner is served, there will be an evening of music and the night is spent in a nomad tent at the foot of the dune.
If you wake up early, you can catch the spectacle of the sunrise, when the orange color of the dunes that stretch as far as you can see, and the play of the shadows. After breakfast, we leave for Tinghir and the Toudgha Gorges.
Along the way, we pass by the water channels, Khettarat, which you can take a break to visit. There are possibilities to walk by the gorges or by the gardens and the fields in the gorges and the valley. Later on, the journey continues to Dades Valley. The night is spent in a guest house or a kasbah.
After breakfast, there will be the opportunity to visit Dades Gorges and a short walk by the river. Later on, we continue to Ouarzazate, going off-road along the Boutartar road to visit the Berber Nomad in their caves and have a glass of tea with them.
From here, we continue through the Valley of the Roses, known for the rose festival in May and the cosmetics workshops that are valued throughout Morocco. After a visit to Skoura Oasis, we explore Kasbah Amredhil. This kasbah has been restored to retain its beautiful authentic beauty. It is entirely made of adobe to keep the houses warm in winter and cool in the summer. Later, we arrive at Ouarzazate for the night in a riad.
After breakfast, the journey continues to Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites and a backdrop for many Hollywood movies. It is the oldest and the most famous kasbah in Morocco. Back on the road, we drive along the Ounila Valley, Berber villages, gardens, and smaller Kasbahs.
We continue to Kasbah Telouet, situated between the mountains, served as a residential palace to the last Pasha of Marrakech, El Glaoui, who fled the country after the departure of the French. You will be amazed by the interieur traditional architecture. Later on, we cross the High Atlas Mountains to arrive at red city which marks the end of your desert trip from Fes to Marrakech 5 days.
